August 14, 2014 - Moravský Kras, Lipůvka, Tuřany & Špilberk Castle

Today's adventure with Lucie:

Lucie and Martin had wanted to show me the caves at Moravský Kras. The most interesting of the five cave tours went half on foot and half by boat underground. By phone on Tuesday, the next available tickets for that tour were next Tuesday, which was not a convenient day for us. So Lucie decided we would just drive up there today and see if we could get in.

As we pulled into the place, there were signs all over that that tour was sold out for the day. We went to the ticket office. One of the agents wouldn't respond, but another one took an interest in the visitor from America and said to wait while she checked. She said some people had made reservations for the tour in half an hour, but hadn't picked them up yet, so she would let us take those. We then had 2 km to walk to where the tour started, and got there with 5 minutes to spare.

The tour was pretty spectacular, and I made sure we stopped back on the way out to thank the agent who had helped us.

Then we went for lunch at a popular pub in a nearby town that served traditional Czech cooking - Restaurace Formanka in Lipůvka. We both had the garlic soup, and I had wild boar served Svíčková style, a first for me.

Tuřany, a suburb of Brno that still maintains the cyclical agricultural festivals with their traditional kroje.

Ended the evening with a Černá Hora from the grocery store.
