July 2, 2017 - Znojmo

Morning mass to hear someone else play the organ; afternoon trip to Znojmo for sights and Moravian wine tasting; this evening moved into the borrowed apartment I'll be in for the rest of my stay in Brno. So a big day.

Sunrise from the deck.

Simm card for my local phone number.

A strange marketing concept?

"Original" trdelnik before it became a festival item. I like it both ways. the dough was thicker and a little more dense, plus it was glazed all around, then rolled in nuts - and served room temperature. At festivals they're usually hot and rolled in cinnamon and sugar.

Pepper Burger and Beer Burger. Zoom in to see what's in them.

Walking around Znojmo.

Rotunda of St. Katherine from the mid-11th century.

Landscaping with various kinds of thyme.

Sign at the entrance to the Rotunda tour. Groups of ten each got 15 minutes inside to help preserve the internal climate.

 A rose garden from above.

Lucie and Martin took me along on an outing to the Austrian border to pick up wine for the wedding, dropping me off in Znojmo so I could explore the historic city center, and later we went together to visit the Znojmo vineyard for wine-tasting. (As far as I have been able to determine, wine from Znojmo is the only Moravian wine available for purchase in the US – it was used for the reception for the Czech prime minister when he was at the CSPS hall in St. Paul in April 2016.)

At the winery.

Bowling with the ball on a chain. Something for the backyard?

We didn't taste all of these.

For the crafty- make your own wreath with leftover corks.

View from river level.

Art piece in front of one of the river cottages.
