The small village my Trnka great-great-grandparents, Matěj Trnka (22 Jan 1813 - 25 Oct 1894) and Rozalie Malechová (6 Feb 1820 - 29 Apr 1894), and 10 of their children left in 1862 to come to America.
A dream come true this morning to bike around Sviny and the countryside with time to take things in, rather than speeding by in a car.
One of the Sviny farmsteads not yet rehabbed.
Memorial to those from Sviny lost in WWI and WWII.
At least two of these are relatives.
Out into the countryside.
House #8 with goats. The house my ancestors left in 1862 to come to America.
Next door to #8, #18 - where some Trnkas were living in the early 1900s.
Views from #8 and #18.
One person's vast collection of antiques.
Mažice and Zálší
Two nearby villages (within 3 kms of Sviny)
Mažice, Number 39, now abandoned. My
4th-great-grandfather, Matěj Trnka (1741-1807), a blacksmith, lived and had his
smithy here.
The new house built on the #39 lot.
Zálší, Number 3. My 3rd-great-grandmother, Anna Irová (1785-1830), grew up in this farmstead.
Cemetery in Mažice.
Potter in Sviny.
Sviny #21 - The people’s entrance.
The
farmstead of my great-great-grandmother Rozalie Malechová’s family, the Malechas, whose descendants I have been
meeting in each of my trips. This time I was invited to stay in the farmstead.
The vehicle entrance.
The main portion of the house.
The animal and storage building on the other side of the entrance – now being converted into living space.
Final dinner in Veseli.
