August 12, 2014 – Brno area

Quiet, relaxing morning at Lucie and Martin's, then we went for lunch to their favorite restaurant, Noem Arch: homemade lemonade with wild berries, Lucie had Svíčková, Martin and I had pork loin stuffed with plums, which was incredible!

Benediktinské opatství Rajhrad, this Benedictine abbey is currently being maintained by four resident brothers. It used to have several hundred. The High Baroque church was a place of pilgrimage. I found the "cloister tavern" an interesting part of the complex!

Klášter Rosa coeli, Dolní Kounice. Another cloister, this one abandoned in the 1400s during the Hussite wars. Some renovation being done.

The garden and summer cottage of Martin's parents, where we cooked sausages over a wood fire for dinner. These gardens run down the hillsides on the edge of Brno. Most are 5 meters wide by 150 meters long, but Martin's family own two adjoining gardens, so theirs is 10 meters wide. The cottage has electricity, but no water, so overnight stays are limited, but great gardening space with lots of fruit trees, grapes, etc.

Moon over Brno from the garden!
