Jízda králů (The Ride of Kings)

Reading the program for the Straznice Festival this June, I was aware that there was a celebration at this year's festival of the recent inclusion of Jízda králů (The Ride of Kings) on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Watching the opening of the festival parade, it was clear we were seeing various versions of the Ride of Kings from various villages, which was spectacular and exciting. What I didn't realize until doing a little research after getting home, is that there are 4 Moravian villages who each have their own Ride of Kings (Hluk, Kunovice, Skoronice, and Vlčnov), and they were all represented in the parade. Getting to see these all at one time in one place was certainly an extra treat from the festival this year. Here's an article in English about the award and the tradition, which goes back centuries: http://www.radio.cz/en/section/curraffrs/ride-of-the-kings-added-to-unesco-heritage-list

Jízda králů from Hluk (version one)

Jízda králů from Kunovice (version two)

Jízda králů from Skoronice (version three)

Jízda králů from Vlčnov (version four)

The rest of the parade follows the Ride of Kings portion:
